Performing hair analysis with dermatoscope or trichogram gives a more detailed analysis. The success of both the medical treatment and hair transplantation can be analyzed comparatively. Before hair transplantation, the diagnosis must first be made correctly. Different drug treatments may be sufficient for hair loss except for the endogenous alopecia. The irreversible hair loss and family history are important in diagnose. The endogenous alopecia begins with miniaturization. In miniaturization, hair volume is reduced and diameter of hair follicle is narrowed, but the number of hair follicles is normal. The number of hair follicles will also decrease much more in the advanced stages. The androgenic alopecia can be observed in two ways. Normal Norwood hair loss starts with bitemporal regression and miniaturization in the crown area. In the Norwood class A, hair loss progresses regularly from front to back. Hair follicles in sides and nape area are resistant to androgen in both types of hair loss.
However, progression is different in diffuse patent alopecia and diffuse unpattern alopecia, and hair transplantation should not be made to diffuse unpattern alopecia patients.
